ISTANBUL and GREATER ANATOLIA Folk Art and Textile Adventure
2008 Departures: 4/15-27 and 11/2-14
This tour is of special interest not only to rug and textile collector-lovers but also for people who love folk art and close cultural contacts with the people. We explore various folk arts, visit ceramics workshops, felt makers, silk and wool dyeing workshops, and the rug repair ateliers of central Anatolia. We also learn to bargain at shops.
Meet Vedat Karadag An inveterate traveler myself, I understand the fascination travelers have with discovering new places. I love to experience different cultures, foods, and artistic traditions, and to see how people live on a daily basis. I am fascinated by the architecture, textiles and rugs, ceramics, woodwork, and metalwork produced in the different regions of Anatolia. Travel, history, and the study of material culture are my passion. I can never resist buying yet one more book about the history and culture of my own country or the foreign lands I visit.
Testimonials Many thanks for arranging one of the most exciting and educational trips we've ever undertaken. Your knowledge and understanding of ancient and contemporary Turkey provided not only an historical perspective but insight into the hopes and aspirations for today. T.J.K., Illinois
Although we have travelled extensively on all continents, by many different means, we have to say that this trip was among the best we have ever taken. Dr. Wheatley, Montreal.
